community standards

Inclusivity first!

Our forums aren't just a place to help you thrive in the marketplace: They're also a place to connect with diverse communities and think about the influence each of us has in bridging opportunity gaps.

Value new perspectives

We believe there’s great value in being exposed to new perspectives—including ones that challenge your own outlook on the world. BridgingTheGap Forums is rooted in thought-provoking conversations, but we can only have those conversations when everyone feels safe and respected. Our aim is to create the opportunity for meaningful participation and constructive dialogue with a broad array of viewpoints.

Our commitment

We’re committed to being a safe and inclusive space for all our attendees. Our Code of Conduct provides a clear set of guidelines for everyone in the BridgingTheGap community about the standards to which we hold you—and ourselves.

code of conduct

Be kind and respectful

We ask that all attendees, speakers, sponsors and other guests be respectful of each others’ lived experiences, interests, abilities and personal differences. Be kind, even in moments of disagreement or discomfort. Be mindful of how your individual actions and words are experienced by others.

We think it goes without saying, but sometimes it’s good to be really clear: We expect that all forum attendees will treat each other with dignity and respect. Harassment, discrimination and any form of abuse of any forum attendee are never tolerated in person or online—this behaviour reduces the value of the forum for everyone.

Attendees who choose to not follow our Code of Conduct may be asked to leave the forum, without a refund, at the discretion of BridgingTheGap and our program team.

We also reserve the right to monitor, edit, hide or remove inappropriate comments on social media.

Speak out and own up

We believe in the freedom of expression of all attendees, and encourage discussion and interaction as essential elements of participation.

If you see someone behaving disrespectfully and you feel safe and comfortable doing so, we encourage to respectfully discourage them from such behaviour. The safety and well-being of forum attendees are vital. If someone makes you feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it immediately to BridgingTheGap staff. We want to hear from you about anything that you feel is disrespectful, threatening or just icky.

We urge any forum attendee who has witnessed or experienced any action or behaviour that is counter to our values to contact and report their experience. We will listen and work to resolve the matter.

If you catch yourself behaving disrespectfully, or if someone else shares their discomfort with you, own up to your words and actions and apologize accordingly.
